Redefining Bag Design & Material Innovation with PUBLISHED BY - E19

Host Beata Wilczek calls on leading minds, from researchers and technologists to designers, artists and activists, to look at the emerging fashion futures and digital cultures in changing times.

Welcome to the Unfolding NEW PATTERNS. In my latest podcast, Fashion Knowledge, I discuss smart wearables and the future of interactive fashion with Ivan Poupyrev. Find out more on Instagram.

A shimmering, floaty bag has been consistently appearing in my Instagram feed. It looked more like a 3D render of a chrome blob, seemingly leaping from the screen directly into the wardrobes of my friends.

This mysterious bag is designed and created by PUBLISHED BY, an Austrian studio that blends cutting-edge 3D modeling and production technologies with meticulous craftsmanship. Their creations are sculptural accessories, drawing inspiration from architecture and modern art.

Christoph Tsetinis, based in Vienna, serves as the Founder and Creative Director of PUBLISHED BY. Collaborating with his partner, Ruby Wallen, who holds the position of Managing Director, they co-create the vision of PUBLISHED BY.

Their work is deeply infused with technological innovation, evident not only in their aesthetic expression but also in their approach to design and production. Drawing inspiration from the automotive and high-tech sectors, PUBLISHED BY aims to challenge and redefine traditional manufacturing techniques and material science in the industry, leveraging advanced 3D technologies.

“PUBLISHED BY functions more like a product development house, primarily focusing on fashion. It's intriguing to witness the evolution occurring after just a few seasons, as people initially notice our brand through bags, serving as the gateway to our offerings. However, our scope has expanded to include furniture, glasses, shoes, and more. The design language we've cultivated allows for a seamless integration of various products.

What really interested me was exploring new technologies and innovative ways of connecting with people from entirely different industries. I found it fascinating to collaborate and work together with them.

This interest ultimately became the foundation of PUBLISHED BY. The name itself came about in a rather amusing way. I needed a name for a sponsorship, and someone suggested using "Tsetinis", which sounded quite similar to an underwear brand.

Realizing I couldn't use that, I sat at home brainstorming with Ruby. At four o'clock in the morning, after flipping through magazines like Vogue, I noticed a recurring theme – the publisher. This led to the creation of PUBLISHED BY, named after the repeated "published by" phrase that caught my attention.”
